The ICD-10 implementation will touch many parts of the healthcare industry. The International Classes of Diseases (ICD) - ninth and tenth revisions, respectively — designate and catalog all diagnosable afflictions, identify hospital-based medical procedures and develop classifications.
ICD-10 replaced the existing ICD-9 coding system that was in use in the U.S. since 1979. From head colds to cardiac catheterizations, there is a new ICD-10 code for all medical conditions and this coding set will help keep the healthcare industry organized.
